The Fly

I started with a trash bag stuffed with paper to approximate the shape.  Then I applied strips of plaster bandages
overlapping 4 layers thick. While this hardened, I moved on to the eyes.

I filled a bowl with plaster, and then using a round tool, carved out the divots. I then vacuum formed a piece of
polyethelyne over the plaster, and trimmed it on a cutting wheel. Yes, I know these aren't commonly found tools
in an average shop, but working in the orthotic-prosthetic field has it's advantages.

The eyes are positioned where they look the best, then secured by placing roped up plaster bandages around them and smoothing into the rest of the head. This also made the "lid" shapes ringing the eyes. More roped up plaster bandages formed the "mouth", actually the section the actor will see through. Sheer fabric from the fabric store covered the cut out mouth section allowing the actor to see, without being seen.

The "proboscis" were triangular pieces of black plastic hot glued in place through slits in the head. The "feelers" were pieces of rubber hose. The "hairs" were pipe cleaners cut in irregular lengths and dyed black. The bottom edge was roped in plaster bandages to approximate the shape of a set of shoulders. The paint job was green and black for the head, red and gold for the eyes. I also made a  CLAW  for the fly which can be seen HERE.  In the pics above the fly is coming out of  my TELEPOD, which can be seen HERE.
