Teleportation Pod

The entire frame is made of 1x2's. The top and bottom are identical with all sections 2 feet long. The  wide section is 32"  per section. Cut the edges at 45 degrees and, using a staple gun, lay out your hexagons.

The support struts are 12" long.  The long sections are 6' each, 2 per section.  An extra person is handy for attaching the long studs, but again a staple gun works great for temporarily positioning the pieces before wood screwing them in place. Leave one side open for the door.

The door was framed up by eye, just whatever looked right, which of course led to problems later.  A 1x6 for the topand bottom gives you somewhere solid to mount to, and an idea how big to make the door. The top of the door slid on a slider from a closet door, while the bottom rolled on a piece of angle iron. Getting the door to slide smoothly took a lot
of adjustments, but in the end it worked great.

Long screws were temporarily inserted every foot or so, and black PVC, which I found on a 100' roll for about
$10.00 at Lowes, was laid on the screws. When they looked right, I screwed through the PVC  at several points around
the pod, including right next to the door at each ring, and on both edges of the door itself. A small 1\4" dowel rod
was attached from the center vertical section of the door , to the high point of each ring on the door for stability.
Once the rings were solidly attached, the rings were cut on each side of the door so it could slide freely, and the long
screws were removed.  The wood frame was painted gray, and the wall coverings were applied.

For the wall covering, I found these thin plastic sheets at a surplus store for 10 cents apiece. Really thin, really
cheap. About $3.00 worth covered the whole thing, but they were kind of  fragile. I alternated between staple gun
and hot glue gun to attach them, then cut the overhangs with a razor. The nice thing was, they took on any color we
wanted. All we had to do was shine colored lights behind them and they completely took on that color.

Amidst the smoke, lights, and sound fx, the Pod transforms a hapless scientist
into.......THE FLY!
